HOSTEL COLONIAL BUENOS AIRES NEW STRATEGY

New hostel brand? No, new strategy.

On 509 Tucumán Street in corner with San Martín Street between Florida and Lavalle pedestrian streets, an steel door stamped with the classic vintage Hostel Colonial logo beckons.
Upstairs, a grate, a glass door and yeah, you are here. Inside the lobby, dance or reggae music pulses softly , a cover magazine mirror, a water machine, a refrigerator full of cold beer, posters, books, flyers, particularly at a scheduled disorder and new computers greets visitors.
This is the entrance for the Hostel Colonial Buenos Aires, a budget youth hostel with a quirky sensibility, which opened for business in February 2004.
Though it has the same management and shares the building with the restaurant & grill "La Posada de 1820", it seems a world away in terms of style and clientele. Other restaurants with the same management are "La Casona del Nonno", "Parrilla El Gaucho" and "Almacén Suipacha", each with its mark and their different trade approaches.
"Hostel Colonial is a hostel with 4 restaurants".
What? "It's a crazy brand concept that's a youth hostel with restaurants that could well meet the needs of a five-star hotel, designed to attract backpacking European, Brazilian and other tourists who don´t want to spend too much money on accommodation, but want to spend that money on other pleasures".
The concept is part inspiration, part necessity. I´m completely convinced that there is a powerful synergy between business units and at one point opposites attract. So I have this question: 50,000 customers served each month in the restaurants are not a large database to generate new tourism business?
"Youth hostels are popular, budget hotels are popular, but the Hostel Colonial is the one and only Buenos Aires Famous Hostel will be for something. It seems like something that certainly is within the spectrum of what people would be going for.
Remember, Hostel Colonial, Buenos Aires, Argentina, South América, we are making history, we are adding value to backpacking travel. We don´t know if we will succeed, but each new idea gives us more eager to keep trying.
