WALKING DOWN CORRIENTES AVENUE

For decades Corrientes was my avenue in Buenos Aires, I walked on over 60 blocks hundreds of times.


Corrientes Avenue, one of the most representative avenues of Buenos Aires (2 blocks from Hostel Colonial). Avenue of bookstores, cafes, theaters and the famous Buenos Aires pizzerias. Born in Puerto Madero and ends at Chacarita.Between 1910 and 1938 was transformed into Avenue.Crosses the center, Once, Abasto, Almagro and Villa Crespo.

Strongly associated with the Tango, in some of its corners can find Tango scenes composed of carved figures, such as that seen on the Luis M. Drago St.. The most traditional pizza places are here in a few Downtown, 8 blocks from Hostel Colonial: Guerrin, Los Inmortales, Banchero, Las Cuartetas and El Palacio de la Pizza.

Corrientes Ave., between Callao Avenue and Esmeralda Street has the highest concentration of bookstores and theaters from all over Buenos Aires, usually remain open until after midnight, especially on weekends, and have the largest bar and theaters.

We also find in it the major theaters: the Maipo, the Grand Rex, the Opera, the San Martín, the Astral, the Lola Membrives, the Metropolitan and the Alvear and others.La Giralda, La Paz and El Vesuvio, the famous bars and cafés of Buenos Aires are accommodated in the current.

HOSTEL COLONIAL BUENOS AIRES - I ALWAYS RETURN TO SAN TELMO

I always return to San Telmo. I never knew why, perhaps that is where I get my best postcards of Buenos Aires. My life goes on and on the Downtown (the Hostel Colonial and my restaurants neighborhood) and Las Cañitas in Palermo, where I live, but every week I give a tour of this neighborhood.One of those places that are a mystery, a place to rediscover, its streets, its smells ... San Telmo and the historic places began to draft the country: Argentina. A few blocks from Hostel Colonial begins the walk. Everything is to be seen and photographed, an idea that if we promote from the hostel.


Defensa St. at night

Suipacha St. becomes Tacuari St. and the appearance of Buenos Aires is changing. Move up to the Chile St. and Defensa St., the most beautiful streets in the neighborhood, in my opinion obviously. We are far from the Dorrego Square, but today we will not for this place. The Chile St. is paved and can be seen even from the old tram tracks. We cross the streets Piedras, Chacabuco, Perú, Defensa until Balcarce.





Returned to Defensa St. and walk to the north, we stop at the corner of Alsina St., a few meters, the famous coffee shop and Tango place in Buenos Aires called La Puerto Rico, almost as recognized as the Cafe Tortoni. We arrived at Plaza de Mayo Square, national buildings and historic places, very active, people walking, tourists, people expressing their ideas, the Pink House (National Government House), the "Cabildo", was the seat of Spanish colonial power, in this place were the events of the May Revolution in 1810, emblematic buildings. The South Diagonal (Julio Argentino Roca Ave.), so there are two streets in Buenos Aires, the other is the North Diagonal(Roque Sáenz Peña Ave) are a rarity that deserves to be walking town, a fact, all the buildings on the North Diagonal have the same height. To end we crossed the square, or we can have a panoramic view from the avenue and we are going to the Metropolitan Cathedral, a magnificent building. On the San Martin St. can see his dome. Was completed, we are 5 blocks from the hostel, back, Buenos Aires still has plenty to see and do.

Por quinto año consecutivo se realiza el Pepsi Music 2009, la maratón de música con más de 100 bandas y grandes figuras nacionales e internacionales.

Asesoramiento virtual

La Secretaría de Turismo pretende asesorar a los prestadores de servicios de manera tal que inicien el camino de la calidad. Para ello progresivamente compartiremos herramientas de gestión. En el caso de las Normas IRAM SECTUR, trataremos los requisitos que deben reunir para alcanzar el estándar de calidad planteado por ellas.

A través de este medio, destinando algunas horas semanales, los prestadores podrán interiorizarse y formarse, alcanzar el autodiagnóstico de calidad.

El primer paso para poder realizar un autodiagnóstico de calidad consiste en determinar cual de las Normas se ajusta más al ente, organismo o empresa en cuestión. Para determinar esto, resulta indispensable analizar el alcance, que es lo que define quién está incluido y quién no para aplicar a la certificación de la norma. Es determinante en el sector hotelero, donde la legislación no establece de manera clara los límites que diferencian un tipo de establecimiento de otro, y esto puede prestar a confusión. Aquí procederemos a especificarlo a los fines de que el lector pueda establecer cual de ellas es la más apropiada a su caso.

Normas de alojamiento:

Hotel: “ Establecimiento con recepción, servicio e instalaciones adicionales, que ofrece alojamiento y, en la mayoría de los casos, servicios de comidas (UNE-EN ISO 18153).” (IRAM-SECTUR 42200).

Cabaña: “Alojamiento turístico con un mínimo de tres unidades independientes y aisladas o formando conjunto con otras hasta un máximo de dos, con facilidades para la elaboración o provisión de alimentos, que presentan una administración común e incluyan servicios de recepción, conserjería, limpieza, seguridad, estacionamiento y espacio abierto común.” (IRAM-SECTUR 42210).

Alojamiento rural: “establecimiento ubicado en área rural y cuyas características principales responden a la identidad cultural y regional, ofreciendo actividades afines. Estas actividades se caracterizan por: permitir al huésped relacionarse con el modo de vida rural y especialmente con las labores productivas propias del grupo familiar velando por la autenticidad de las mismas; por ser actividades que pueden realizar con los anfitriones; y por relacionarse con la naturaleza o con la cultura de la zona donde está situado el establecimiento.” (IRAM-SECTUR 42250 ).

Camping ó campamento: “establecimiento que presta servicio de alojamiento turístico, en un terreno debidamente delimitado, asignándole un sitio a cada persona o grupo de personas que hacen vida al aire libre y que utilicen carpas, casas rodantes u otras instalaciones similares para pernoctar y que presta además, servicio de agua apta para el consumo humano, servicio de energía, sanitarios y recepción.” (IRAM-SECTUR 42240).

Casa de huéspedes ó Bed & Breakfast: “servicio de alojamiento turístico de tipo familiar con desayuno que se brinda en establecimientos que no han sido diseñados específicamente para este uso. Estos edificios poseen características distintivas de un período arquitectónico, o propias de la zona. El alojamiento se brinda en habitaciones individuales no estandarizadas y los responsables o propietarios residen en la casa de huéspedes y gestionan el servicio. Debe contar con un mínimo de seis plazas distribuidas en tres habitaciones.” (IRAM-SECTUR 42220).

Hostels: “establecimiento que brinda alojamiento no permanente, inferior a 30 días, conformado por habitaciones compartidas y/o por habitaciones privadas (individuales/singles, dobles, triples o cuádruples) con o sin baño privado. Cuenta con sala de estar y cocina de uso común”. (IRAM-SECTUR 42230 ).

Normas de turismo activo:

Montañismo: “la modalidad de turismo activo cuyo fin es transitar terrenos con dificultad igual o superior a Algo Difícil (AD) según escala UIAA. Algo Difícil es el punto justo donde una ruta comienza a considerarse como una escalada, la cuerda es generalmente necesaria para ascender y el descenso es recomendable en “rappel”. Es la más difícil de guardar y en algunas guías de escaladas en montañas se pueden ver variaciones como por ejemplo AD- AD+. Se requieren conocimientos de escalada en roca, hielo y nieve. Siempre con fines deportivos y/o recreativos.” (IRAM-SECTUR 42510).

Cabalgata como: “la modalidad de turismo que utiliza cabalgaduras y que permite acceder a zonas preferentemente agrestes por medio de senderos o rutas identificadas.” ( IRAM-SECTUR 42520).

Cicloturismo: “ la modalidad de turismo aventura que consiste en la recorrida de un área urbana, rural o ambiente natural que tiene como elemento principal la utilización de bicicletas.” ( IRAM-SECTUR 42530).

Rafting: “la acción de descender los ríos de motaña, rápidos u otros ríos navegables, en forma individual o grupal, en una embarcación apropiada para tal fin y debidamente habilitada por autoridad competente, sin otro medio de propulsión y control de la embarcación que el generado por los mismos navegantes con el empleo de remos.” (IRAM-SECTUR 42540).

Canotaje: “actividad turística cuyo fin es la navegación por cuerpos de agua naturales u artificiales, mediante el uso de embarcaciones tipo kayak o canoas, sin otro medio de propulsión y control de la embarcación que el generado por los mismos navegantes con el empleo de remos.”( IRAM-SECTUR 42550).

Áreas naturales protegidas (ANP): “ zonas de la superficie, subsuelo terrestre y/o cuerpos de agua existentes que, por razones de interés general, especialmente de orden científico, económico, estético o educativo deban sustraerse de la libre intervención humana a fin de asegurar la existencia a perpetuidad de uno o más elementos naturales y/o culturales, especialmente consagrada a la protección y el establecimiento de la diversidad biológica, así como uno de los recursos naturales y los recursos culturales asociados, y supervisada a través de medios jurídicos u otros medios eficaces.”( IRAM-SECTUR 42300).

Servicios turísticos en vehículo todo terreno: “modalidad del turismo activo en vehículos todo terreno, que se organiza previamente por caminos convencionales, no convencionales, por huellas vehiculares o circuitos especiales. Los circuitos son guiados por la organización, con vehículos automotores propios o del cliente.” (IRAM SECTUR 42570).

La norma Servicios turísticos de senderismo y travesías define, por un lado, senderismo ó hikking “actividad de baja dificultad cuyo fin es caminar visitando una zona agreste o no determinada utilizando un sendero establecido o marcado, de condiciones geográficas variadas, y que no requiera del uso de técnicas y equipo especializado de montaña”; por otro lado, travesía ó trekking como “actividad cuyo fin es recorrer itinerarios no señalizados, en zonas agrestes que requiere autonomía (técnicas de orientación, equipamiento, entre otros)”. (IRAM-SECTUR 42500).

Normas varias:

Museo: “institución permanente, sin fines de lucro y al servicio de su sociedad y su desarrollo, que es accesible al público y acopia, conserva, investiga, difunde y expone el patrimonio material e inmaterial de los pueblos y su entorno para que sea estudiado, eduque y deleite al público (estatutos de ICOM, modificado por última vez en la 20º Asamblea General del ICOM. Barcelona, España, 6 de Julio del 2001)”. Es importante recalcar que se dirige a lo que atañe a gestión del visitante, no del museo. (IRAM-SECTUR 42400 ).

Restaurantes: “establecimiento donde se vende comida parea ser consumida en el mismo lugar, tanto elaborada en el mismo establecimiento como producida por terceros.”( IRAM-SECTUR 42800).

Navegación turística a motor: “transporte realizado en embarcaciones para navegar en aguas marítimas, lacustres o fluviales, con o sin cabina, con fines turísticos.”( IRAM SECTUR 42560).

Organizador de eventos: “persona física o jurídica que, administrando recursos propios o de terceros, se encarga de diseñar, planificar, organizar, implementar y supervisar aspectos de un evento de manera profesional”.( IRAM SECTUR 42900).

Normas de competencias laborales

Dentro de este grupo se encuentran las cuatro normas de especialistas en canotaje, cabalgatas, cicloturismo y rafting. Las mismas están dirigidas a la persona que lleva a cabo la actividad, y se evalúa principalmente la capacidad de la misma de liderar un grupo de personas basándose en conocimientos, formación y experiencia técnica comprobable sobre la actividad. En este grupo también podemos colocar a la norma 42705 Coordinador de turismo estudiantil, la cual define coordinador como: “persona que tiene a su cargo viajes de estudio y viajes de egresados”.

Formación

Desde la Secretaría de Turismo de la Nación se ha brindado asistencia técnica a través del “Taller de Formación de Implementadores de normas IRAM SECTUR”, que se desarrolló a principios de abril de 2009 en el auditorio de SECTUR; y otro con la misma temática pero que se llevó a cabo en la última semana de abril en el Parque Nacional Lanín. Además, se hicieron cursos formativos en junio en la Provincia de Mendoza.



Asimismo, el sector privado también ofrece cursos de capacitación en esta temática.

Por un lado, en IRAM se está dictando el Curso de Especialización en Gestión de la Calidad Turística, el mismo tiene una duración de 8 meses y está destinado tanto a graduados en turismo como profesionales con tres años de experiencia comprobable en organizaciones vinculadas al sector. El mismo se iniciará nuevamente el próximo 14 abril de 2010 y abordará las distintas temáticas en normas de gestión aplicadas en el sector turístico, con el fin de brindar los conocimientos necesarios a los profesionales interesados en estas nuevas tendencias del mercado.

Yesterday we were talking with my friend Alejandro Velazquez @Cookieface and then written #934 posts on this blog and we reached the conclusion that he had to find truths essence, the magic of this blog.

We got several questions:

Is this a hostel blog? Yes, was the reply.

Is this a Buenos Aires blog? Yes, was the reply.

Is this a travel blog? Yes, was the reply.

Is this a photography blog? Yes, was the reply.

We understand that this is a blog from someone eager to have places, travels, experiences, studies, business and social relationships, someone with 20 years experience in the hospitality business, with a particular view of life and business, a borderline, always.

It seems that now is the time to tell my experiences, my beginnings, my ideas and their realization, from Buenos Aires to the world.

HOSTEL COLONIAL BUENOS AIRES - THE WORLD´S TEN HAPPIEST CITIES

Disney World has been labeled "the Happiest Place on Earth", but one look at the tired parents, screaming kids, and extremely long lines will tell you that is just marketing spin. Ever wonder where the actual happiest place on Earth is?

Then wonder no more, because Forbes, in conjunction with market researcher GfK Custom Research North America, has put together a list of the ten happiest cities on Earth, just in time to start planning your next vacation.

The list was compiled using data from 2009 Anholt-GfK Roper City Brands Index which was published in June. In that study, more than 10,000 people, across 20 countries, were surveyed about the their general satisfaction with their lives and their overall lifestyle.

The results were then compiled, with these ten cities rising to the top for the overall happiness level of their inhabitants.

The ten cities to make the list, in order, are: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Sydney, Australia; Barcelona, Spain; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Melbourne, Australia; Madrid, Spain; San Francisco, U.S.A.; Rome, Italy; Paris, France; and Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Many of the cities on the list come as no surprise, as they are already top destinations for travelers, but clearly the Australians and Spaniards know what they are doing, as they each have two cities in the top ten. HOSTEL COLONIAL BUENOS AIRES - SAILING THE DELTA

On languid summer afternoons, the splendid old houses bordering Tigre's street create a laid back atmosphere that's perfect for evening strolls a quick boat ride, or a halt at park bench to watch the blood orange sunset.
Just a 50 minute train ride from the city centre old fashioned Tigre´s feels worlds away from the concrete jungle and never more so than out on the water.
Leading the way in the eco-tourism sector, Delta Sur is an thoughtful company that goes beyond simply watching the delta float past.stop -offs at a cultural centre offer fascinating insights into the lives of the islanders, while Delta Sur's knowledge of the Unesco biosphere reserve deep in the delta, is unsurpassed. A long menu of tours is offered in English.
At Navegando por El Delta you can take a half day, full day or, their speciality, a night trip on the Bruma a spacious- wooden sailing boat piloted by the genial Chuk Serantes. Refurbished in 2000, Bruma now has two dining areas, one below deck and one above with barbecue, plus a solarium and a library. Chuk and his wife Rosana are both bilingual.

HOSTEL COLONIAL BUENOS AIRES - A DAY TRIP TO SAN ANTONIO DE ARECO

Whit its cobblestoned streets, one storey houses and century old buildings surrounded by seemingly limitless expanses of flat plains, the town of San Antonio de Areco could be straight out of the movies. Founded in 1730 around a colonial church, this quiet, dusty town has been declared a city of historic national interest by government, and if you fancy a breath of country air, you need come no further.

The ”Fiesta de la Tradición”, a celebration held each year in November, features a traditional gaucho parade on horseback, folkloric dances and typical gaucho games such as the “corrida de sortija”, in which galloping horsemen catch rings from poles.

The city is located in the Province of Buenos Aires, 100 km from Hostel Colonial.

HOSTEL COLONIAL - VIEW THE BUENOS AIRES STREET SCENE

I really did not plan to write another post about Street Art in Buenos Aires, at least this year, but such is the relevance and so great is the qualitative leap from the artists, that reading a note in Time Out, I decided to play almost completely with some additions to the undersigned.. The movement grows and creativity raises, you know, if you ever see a bald guy, photographing a wall of Buenos Aires, may ask – Hey George, are you?

“Argentina´s infamous economic collapse of 2001-2 is about as far back as anyone looks when it comes to the history of Street Art in Buenos Aires; but when today´s urban creative hotshots were still in short trousers, their precursors were clawing their way out of the black hole of suffocating military dictatorship of 1976-1983, inscribing the city´s walls and monuments with in-your-face message of dissent.
By 2001, however, disillusionment whit the shambles left by former President Carlos Menem´s messy regime saw a legion of enterprising young artist take to the street to recreate from their defeated city an offbeat fantasy word of whimsical, refreshing frivolous creatures and color splashes.
And though the political discord remains, graffiti in Buenos Aires has since developed level of sophistication and organization that demand respect, even from the fierce political graffitists who vie with them for wall space across the city.
All-star graffiti girl Pum Pum, whose repertoire includes naughty little princesses and chubby chirping birds, predicts that the current global financial situation will bring even more would-be artist out onto the streets, in a attempt to uncover their own experimental and creative sides.
It´s not all about self-discovery, though. Local multi-artist collectives such as DOMA and Face have steadily built up their brand empires, which now includes marketable graphic design, video, animation and apparel, besides their signature playful street characters. While they continue the attack on Buenos Aires surface, their careers have taken a more commercial path than most self-respecting graffiti artist would be willing to admit. Grolou, Gualicho, Lean Frizzera and Grothesque are my favorites.

Either way, lend a few online minutes to MUTO, the jaw-dropping stop-motion animation created in 2008 using the buildings and pavements of Buenos Aires, amongst other cities, as a canvas for the astonishing graffiti creations of European whizz-kid Blu; then get off the web and hop on a urban art tour with Graffitimundo for a stroll and peek at some of Palermo´s finest on-the street masterpieces.”

HOSTEL COLONIAL - BUENOS AIRES, EL TANGO Y UN SALDO MÁS QUE POSITIVO

Ayer finalizó en Buenos Aires el Festival y Mundial Internacional de Tango. Luego de la Gripe A y del durísimo impacto de la crisis económica que está haciendo estragos en el sector, finalizó este gran evento con un saldo más que positivo.
Más de 300.000 turistas asistieron a 17 jornadas maratónicas, una organización sin fisuras, sedes maravillosas como Harrod´s a 2 cuadras del hostel, artistas de primer nivel, nadie faltó a la cita y miles de propuestas satélite que no hicieron más que poner en valor lo que el Tango es a Buenos Aires y a esta altura, al mundo entero.
Agosto 2010, ya entró en tiempo de descuento, mientras tanto, a disfrutar lo que se viene en Buenos Aires, Jazz Festival en Octubre, Pepsi Music en Octubre/Noviembre y más.
