RIVER-BOCA: ARGENTINE FOOTBALL/SOCCER AT ITS BEST (By Hostel Buenos Aires)
Next Tuesday November 16th, the most important Argentine football/soccer match River-Boca will have a new edition. The so called “Superclásico” (superclassic) will be played in River Plate Stadium. After a recess forced by the death of Argentinas ex president Néstor Kirchner and an argument over the day, time and place for the event (River had its stadium booked for music shows), finally the most expected match it’s been confirmed.
The two most popular teams of Argentina make a true party of color and sound every time they match. Little papers in the wind, colored ballons, flags carrying messages for the adversary and the traditional “cantitos” (what the crowd sings) are the perfect setting to enjoy a show which has been considered by the British newspaper “The Observer” as one of the best 50 sport events of the globe.
Described by the specialized press as “the most intense sport experience in the world”, this match gathers everytime a rivalry which started in the begginings of the XXth Century, when both teams share the La Boca neighborhood. Later, River Plate moved towards the north of the city, but the passion remained the same.
The last precedent in this match is the victory of Boca in its stadium, last April 2nd, with Chilean player Gary Medel scoring two goals and being send off afterwards. River seeks for revenge and, at the same time, tries to catch the last train to Championship. Meanwhile, Boca wants to keep the historical supremacy over River not worrying for the championship. In the stadium, in a bar or in our Hostel Colonial, you must not miss the most important sport event of the year.
