UM JEITO ORIGINAL DE RECORRER BUENOS AIRES

As opções para fazer turismo em Buenos Aires se renovam dia trás dia. Com áudio guias móveis, em carretas, em barco ou revivendo situações históricas, no mesmo lugar onde aconteceram (interpretadas por um grupo de atores). Agora há um novo jeito de conhecer nossa cidade: a bordo de uma frota renovada do clássico Citroën 3CV. A magia da reciclagem: um carro velho para recorrer Buenos Aires de um jeito novo.

Símbolo dos carros econômicos no nosso país, rei das ruas entre os anos 60 e 80, este típico modelo ganhou o carinho de todos os portenhos. Hoje, reciclados e renovados, oferecem um original serviço ao turismo. O modelo, sem teto na versão turística, permite apreciar melhor as nuvens que desenha o céu rio-platense, a complexa arquitetura de uma cidade cosmopolita, entre outras maravilhas.



A frota conta com três carros e um camião Citroën 2CV que recorrem Buenos Aires, dirigidos por choferes vestidos como gaúchos, para somar um toque autóctone. São trajetos curtos como passeios pela cidade histórica (Plaza de Mayo ao sul) o a nova Buenos Aires de Palermo e a zona norte. Também existe a opção noturna com passeio pela Avenida Corrientes, Palermo e Las Cañitas; e a opção livre na que o turista elege a recorrida.

O carro leva até três pessoas por passeio (além do chofer) e o custo é de 80 pesos argentinos por pessoa (20 dólares americanos). A recorrida conta com guia que fala inglês e português. Um jeito diferente e original de recorrer a cidade, uma lembrança inesquecível e a chance de tirar as melhores fotos da sua viagem.

CHINA TOWN BUENOS AIRES

Buenos Aires, as every cosmopolitan city, has its Chinatown. The Porteño version is located in the neighborhood of Belgrano. It’s only two blocks and a few side streets which gather the restaurants and stores of the Chinese community. It’s a classic touristic place and the preferred one by oriental culture and gastronomy. Hostel Colonial gives you the fast tour through this original destiny.

Chinatown has been there for a long time now and –although it’s not a proper neighborhood- it is an unquestionable piece of culture. The growth it has had in the last years is due to the celebration of the Chinese New Year (in February) and the rising interest of Porteños in ethnic foods. A growth symbolically crowned by the Welcome Arc (in Arribeños Street, in the corner with Juramento Street) in the year 2009, straight from China.



The heart of Chinatown Buenos Aires is two blocks of Arribeños Street, between Juramento and Olazabal Streets, by the Mitre Railroad. From our Hostel Colonial, you can get there by subway (Juramento station of the D Line, plus walking four blocks). The stores are open every day, with the exception of restaurants which are often closed on Monday nights.

FESTIVAL DE CIRCO EM BUENOS AIRES

Desde esta quinta-feira 28 de Abril e até o próximo 9 de maio, se desenvolverá a terceira edição do “Festival Buenos Aires Polo Circo”. Uma proposta para desfrutar a variedade de formatos, estilos e temáticas que as artes do circo permitem explorar na atualidade. Os tickets são livres ou de preços económicos e se conseguem na Casa da Cultura (Avenida de Mayo 575, de segundas a sextas de 10AM a 5PM).

Desde espetáculos em diminutos circos de brinco até gigantes estruturas aéreas, passando por pistas circulares, cenários frontais, pequenos espaços intimistas e monumentais experiências coletivas, este encontro mágico permite viver cada ano fantásticos espetáculos de companhias nacionais e internacionais. Hostel Colonial te conta que é o que traz a vanguarda do circo à nossa cidade.



Este ano se apresentam importantes companhias de circo da França, Bélgica, Guiné, Canadá e os melhores espetáculos do âmbito local. 10 companhias internacionais e 5 locais, em total. Destaca-se a apresentação de um espetáculo em processo do maravilhoso malabarista Philippe Ménard, a obra “Bastidores” da companhia Sacékripa e a chegada dos criadores da improvisação teatral, a companhia Les Immproduits.

O objetivo do festival vá além de propor um espaço de expressão artística: procura também contribuir ao processo de profissionalização das artes circenses que se desenvolve há alguns anos na Argentina. A GIANT SPIDER IN LA BOCA

It’s not science fiction, it’s not an invasion from outer space; it’s just an original piece of work of contemporary art. A giant spider, 9 meters tall, 10 meters wide and weighing 48.400 lbs. stands still and alert in front of the Vuelta de Rocha, in the Proa Art Foundation in La Boca until next June 19th. Its name is “Maman” and it belongs to an exhibition by the French-American sculptor Louise Burgeois.

More than 30.000 people have already visited it since its appearance last March 19th. Among them, you can count the Literature Nobel Prize Mario Vargas Llosa and The Edge, U2 guitarist. The arrival of Maman is due to the exhibition “The return of the repressed”, and the location couldn’t be better: by the river, with the accurate background of the rusty iron of the Old Bridge framing this giant spider made of stainless steel, bronze and marble.



Adriana Rosenberg, director of Proa Foundation emphasizes: “It was predictable, in a city as Buenos Aires, full of people dedicated to psychoanalysis that a work like Maman (an icon of the relationship between psychoanalysis and art) was going to be successful”. The spider is accompanied, inside the building of the foundation, by 86 works of Burgeois including its first sculptures and emblematic installations.

A marvelous exhibition which has recently visited cities like Paris, Bilbao (Spain) and New York, and now can be enjoyed in the traditional Porteño neighborhood of La Boca. It’s a unique chance to take a picture along the most famous giant spider of contemporary art, by the old port of Buenos Aires, near Caminito and the Riachuelo (a south branch of the River Plate).

SEMANA SANTA EM TERRA SANTA

Esta Semana Santa tem um lugar especial em Buenos Aires: o Parque Temático Terra Santa (Avenida Rafael Obligado 5709, Costanera Norte). O lugar dedicado ao turismo religioso tem preparado um programa especial de atividades para reviver os momentos religiosos e culturais da antiga Jerusalém em um cenário que remite às ruas e à vida do povo que viveu nessa região há 2000 anos.



Quinta-feira 21 de abril
Celebraremos o Último Jantar de Jesus, a mais importante da história de humanidade. Será realizada em horários rotativos, desde a apertura até o fechamento do Parque. Dentro do cenáculo se repartirá o pão ázimo (pão sem levedura) alegórico daqueles momentos.

Sexta-feira 22 de abril
Levara-se a cabo a celebração mais importante do ano: o Via Crucis vivente e a crucifixão, interpretado por atores. A mesma será na cenografia original do parque.

Sábado 23 de abril
Realizaremos dois via crucis viventes no percurso do dia. No entardecer entre as 7PM e as 8PM haverá uma celebração com velas junto com um grande espetáculo de fogos artificiais, festejando a ressurreição do Jesus.

Domingo 24 de abril
Terra Santa regalará aos garotinhos o tradicional ovo de Páscoa e, além disso, poderão desfrutar dos shows musicais de danças árabes e espetáculos de títeres.

HOLY WEEK IN BUENOS AIRES

Tomorrow, April Thursday 21st, the Holy Week begins around the world. This catholic religious celebration is massive in Buenos Aires (as well as the Pesaj or Jewish Easter, which are also bring celebrated these days), and its perfect to enjoy our city. Many Porteños use this extended weekend to go on vacations, configuring a less crowded city. Specialists calculate over 300 thousand tourists visiting us this Holy Week.

The city is prepared for the occasion with guided visits, concerts and religious ceremonies which will take place in circuits of a great patrimonial richness. RÁDIO BRASILEIRA EM BUENOS AIRES

A comunidade brasileira tem uma grande presencia e muitos espaços na nossa cidade de Buenos Aires. Há dezenas de pontos de reunião em bares, restaurantes e clubes. Mais há outros espaços menos tradicionais, ainda igualmente necessários. Esse é o caso de dois programas de rádio dedicados à música e a cultura do Brasil. O primeiro e mais antigo e “Canta Brasil”, um lugar com a história, a atualidade da música brasileira em todos os ritmos e estilos e muita informação das atividades relacionadas com o desenvolvimento e permanente intercâmbio entre o Brasil e a Argentina. O slogan é “No céu, no mar e na terra… Canta Brasil”. Desde o ano 2000 alegra as casas portenhas com a melhor música e uma grande produção que tem convidados de luxo, entrevistas exclusivas, novidades, shows ao vivo, concursos e cartaz de espetáculos. Sextas-feiras as 7PM, na Rádio Palermo FM 94.7.

O outro programa é “Clube Brasil”, um espaço também dedicado à música e à cultura do Brasil, com entrevistas, antecipes, inéditos e raridades. Cultura e turismo. Propõe duas horas com a melhor música e noticias da cultura do Brasil. Os sábados de noite estão cheios de canções que jamais tinham sido passadas pela rádio local ou como disse o programa “a música que lhe faltava à cidade”. Convivem os clássicos da samba e a bossa nova, os tropicalistas, as novas expressões da MPB, as músicas regionais, o rock e a eletrônica. Sábados as 8PM na FM Blue 100.7.

THE BUENOS AIRES BOOK IS COMING

Next Wednesday April 20th the 37 Edition of the Buenos Aires Book Fair will be officially opened. In the traditional spot of La Rural (2704 Sarmiento Avenue, Palermo), the fair will last until May 9th. This year, the event counts on renowned guests and moving tributes. The motto of this edition is: “An open city to the world of books”, an idea aligned with the honor that Buenos Aires received when being appointed as World Book Capital 2011.

The Buenos Aires International Book Fair is like a city of books, a national and international catalog of editorial industries and a party of culture. Since 1975, the first year to be organized, the fair acquired a prominent place and became the most important one in Latin America and an outstanding world reference, gathering more than a million people every year.

The fair usually summons renowned authors from different countries. In past editions visited us writers as: Paul Auster, Ray Bradbury, Susan Sontag, José Saramago, Isabel Allende, Arturo Pérez Reverte; and the locals Jorge Luis Borges, Ernesto Sábato and Adolfo Bioy Casares, among others. In this edition, the opening wil be in charge of Literature Nobel Prize winner Mario Vargas Llosa. In this act, two local figures which passed away this year will be tribute: María Elena Walsh and David Viñas.

The Book Fair can be visited the opening day, Wednesday April 20th, from 6M to 10PM, and the following days: from Sundays to Thursdays, 2PM to 10PM, Fridays and Saturdays, 2PM to 11PM and the next Saturday April 23rd in an extended time from 2PM to 1AM Sunday. The tickets cost 15 Argentine pesos (3.5 American dollars) from Mondays to Thursdays and 20 pesos (5 dollars) from Fridays to Sundays. THE GREAT DIAGONALS OF BUENOS AIRES

It seems as if the great diagonals of Buenos Aires Downtown have been there forever. Nevertheless, they are actually less than 70 years old. The Julio Argentino Roca and Roque Sáenz Peña Avenues are the most famous diagonals of our city. They are born in the Plaza de Mayo and begin their course towards the South and North of Buenos Aires, housing some of the most beautiful and representative buildings.

In the decade of 1910, the government came up with the idea of opening these streets, imitating the Parisian model. Long time after that, in 1943, when the properties involved in the route were acquired, the diagonals were officially opened.

The President Julio Argentino Roca Avenue or South Diagonal is the shorter of the two, almost 300 meters long. It’s born in the south corner of the Cabildo and continues through the side of symbolic buildings as the one of the German enterprise Siemens (with the sculpture of the Colossus on the top), the entrance of the Palace of the Legislature and -near its end- the Manzana de las Luces (and old building of the XVIII Century which worked as a Jesuitical court house).



The Roque Sáenz Peña Avenue or North Diagonal has a symbolic route: it connects the executive and judicial powers, going from the Plaza de Mayo to the Palace of Law. It runs through the famous Obelisco and houses beautiful buildings which respect the height of a 10th floor (67,5 meters, the same as the Obelisco). The diagonal is almost 1km long, at the side of the Buenos Aires Cathedral, the Bencich Building (in the corner of Florida St.) and the Volta Building, until its end in Lavalle Square.

MARATONAS EM BUENOS AIRES

Buenos Aires se consolida como a capital sul-americana do running. Este ano 2011, haverá um novo recorde de 126 maratonas na nossa cidade. Os amantes do esporte festejam por adiantado, como os milhares de turistas que veem para participar das mesmas desde diferentes pontos do continente. Esperam-se quase 150 mil participantes entre todas elas. Hostel Colonial te conta do novo fenómeno portenho.

Organizadas por diferentes empresas e ONGs, as maratonas, media-maratonas e carreiras pela cidade tem crescido regular e sustentavelmente na cidade. A mais importante é a Maratona da Cidade, que contou com quase 15 mil participantes na anterior edição. A maioria delas é para público amateur e fanáticos do running, ainda várias tem ganhado importância e já estão convocando corredores profissionais de o mundo inteiro.



Muita gente aproveita os eventos para manter-se em forma, seja participando ou treinando para alguma carreira específica. Outros escolhem acompanhar caminhando ou passeando pela cidade, aproveitando as ruas cortadas e a possibilidade de caminhar por lugares habitualmente considerados para a circulação de carros. Seja como for, todo mundo tem um objetivo comum: se divertir de um jeito sano.

O custo promédio da inscrição para estas carreiras está entre 60 e 130 pesos argentinos (15 e 35 dólares americanos) e o arrecado costuma se destinar para fins benéficos. As opções são infinitas: carreiras tradicionais, curtas, noturnas, para mulheres, para meninos (acompanhados por seus pais), para bichinhos (e seus donos). THE CAFÉ DE GARCÍA (GARCIA’S CAFÉ)

In a non-touristic neighborhood as Villa Devoto, in the northwest side of our city, is located one of the most traditional Porteño cafes: the Café de García (García’s Cafe). An old building from 1900 you’ll find this special place -which is among the Buenos Aires Notable Cafes- famous for its “picadas”. The “picadas” are meals formed by a large offer of different ingredients as colds, cheeses and other delicatessen.

In the neighborhood where Diego Maradona, a frequent visitor of the place, lives, and where he’s left may autographed posters. The place has a great patio for a cold beer in the spring afternoons. It also has an amazing place inside, decorated by old pictures of great sportsmen and culture representatives, the original score of the tango “Nostalgias” by Enrique Cadícamo and great live music.



In the corner of Sanabria and José Pedro Varela streets, in the heart of Villa Devoto, a sign with the name of the café shows in the middle of an old streetlight, a water pump and the wooden-wheel of traditional a wagon. All of them are objects of the time when Metodio and Carolina, the founders and fathers of the current owners, started a humble café which became a Porteño myth.

The idea is to spend a day walking the beautiful streets of Devoto, one of the greenest neighborhoods of our city, and to try the famous “picadas” of the Café de García (we recommend the super picadas of 30 ingredients). You can visit the café from Mondays to Fridays, 6AM to 9.30PM and Saturdays, 7AM to 2.30PM. We suggest you to make a previous reservation due to the high demand.

O NOVO ESTÁDIO DE LA PLATA

Só 50km longe da Cidade de Buenos Aires, se encontra localizado o estádio mais novo e moderno da Argentina: o Estádio Cidade de La Plata. Na localidade que é capital da Província de Buenos Aires, o primeiro estádio coberto de Sul-América foi recentemente testemunha do tour 360° de U2 e protagonizará também este ano seis jogos da Copa América 2011. Hostel Colonial te conta sobre este novo destino para os esportes e a cultura.

Desenhado pelo arquiteto Roberto Ferreira, foi inaugurado parcialmente o sete de junho de 2003, y recém há um mês e meio, o 17 de fevereiro de 2011, se completaram as obras projetadas que incluíam pôr em forma o lugar para grandes eventos. Encontra-se localizado na cidade de La Plata, em um prédio entre as avenidas 32 e 256, 25 e Rua 21. Tem capacidade para 53.000 espetadores (36.000 sentados) e um tamanho de 105 x 70m.



Na sua curta vida tem alojado grandes eventos esportivos como as finais da Copa Sul-americana 2008 e da Copa Libertadores 2009 (que consagraram ao time local Estudiantes de La Plata); e culturais como recitais das maiores agrupações de rock local (como Patricio Rey, Los Piojos e La Renga) e internacional (como recentemente U2 e Muse). Espera ademais seis jogos da Copa América 2011 incluindo o do Terceiro Lugar.

Entre outros números do Estádio, se destacam os seguintes: 204 lugares para a imprensa escrita (se ampliam a 1000), 4 vestuários para os jogadores, 3 vestuários para juiz e comissário esportivo, 440 assentos preferenciais, 1 palco presidencial, dois restaurantes (para 400 e 150 pessoas), 12 cafeterias, 12 grupos sanitários para ambos sexos, 8 grupos sanitários para deficientes, 357 lugares para deficientes, 5.500 estacionamentos para carros, 100 estacionamentos para ônibus e um heliporto.

THE QUINQUELA MARTÍN MUSEUM

The Quinquela Martín Museum is located in the La Boca neighborhood. The place where Caminito Street tributes this tango city, where the Puente Viejo (Old Bridge) sums up the port landscape and the Boca Juniors Stadium summons multitudes every Sunday. This traditional bright-colored neighborhood, built by immigrants (mostly Italian) and port workers is what Benito Quinquela Martín works depicts.

It’s Museum, which as its figure and its painting are inseparable from the neighborhood, has been declared National Historic Monument. It´s magnificent building in the 1835 Pedro de Mendoza Avenue, where the Museum works along with two schools, was built in 1936. It still preserves its Art Deco style and gives you the chance to stare through the same windows from which the artist captured the La Boca port and its landscapes.

In that very place, where the artist lived, lives its works and everything he gave to his neighborhood. The Museum coexists with a dentist hospital, an elementary school, a teaching institution specialized in plastic arts and a theater (today known as Teatro de La Ribera). “The heart of its work is the conviction that art is for everybody. The first thing in which he thought was to return the neighborhood everything it gave him”, tell the Museum Director.

In this place, besides appreciating the Quinquela Martin works, are organized all kind of cultural activities oriented to the transmission of the Museum’s artistic patrimony and the promotion, experience interchange, diffusion and invitation to the participation of society. All this pursuing the goal of integrating the neighborhood community to which Quinquela Martín and the Museum belong.
