METROBUS, A NEW OF TRAVELING IS COMING
The Buenos Aires City Government is planning to open this year the first route of the Metrobus. It’s a new public transportation system combining the best features of the bus and the metro. It has exclusive lanes and delimited stations and will be on one of the main avenues of the north part of our city, Juan B. Justo, connecting the neighborhoods of Liniers and Palermo.
This first route will put the system to test before its complete implementation. This kind of transportation already exists on 20 cities around the world. The objective is to have faster, more comfortable and safer trip. Its velocity is similar to that of the subway, plus the chance to enjoy the city sights as you travel. Not mentioning its construction is faster compared to the subway (from an average of 7 to 2 years).
The service will be in charge of the two bus lines which traditionally cover the route: the 34 and the 166. Metrobus will have connections to the B and D subway lines and to the railroad. Travel times will reduce in a 40% thanks to the exclusive lanes and the new units which will also include GPS (this will allow calculating the exact time between stations).
The units will be prepared for people on wheelchairs, pregnant women and the elder. In matters of security, each bus has a video camera monitoring system to protect the passengers. Besides that, in terms of road safety, the exclusive lanes and straight line route will add foreseeability to the trip and will also avoid the breaking of the speed limit.
