SUMMER IN THE CITY (By Hostel Buenos Aires)

Although the calendar indicates yesterday as the beginning of summer, today officially and meteorologically starts the hottest station in Buenos Aires. This December 22nd is the longest day of the year (sun rises at 5.37AM and sets at 8.06PM). In this time, the city hustle and bustle breaths with the school and labor recess: less crowded streets and more accessible urban tourist circuits. Hostel Colonial tells you how to enjoy summer in the city.

The first thing to consider is sun and high temperatures protection. Buenos Aires has an average of 25°C (77°F) of minimum temperature and 32°C (90°F) maximum (reaching 40°C –104°F- in the warmest days). You can also count on high humidity, rising the wind chill factor. Those are the reasons why you should bring not only a fine sun block cream but also light clothing and water or some beverage to hydrate properly.

With these precautions, you can enjoy our city at its best. As said before, most of the Porteños chose January and February to go away on vacations so the city looks practically empty. The main and best consequence of this is that public transportation times accelerate and crowds are no longer an issue to consider when visiting the typical tourist landmarks.

To walk around Downtown, close to our Hostel, or to visit Recoleta or Palermo is easier than usual. We recommend doing this after 5 or 6PM, when the temperature drops a bit and part of the city is covered by the shadows of its buildings. You can also visit places in the open air as the Riverside Road (North or South of the city) or one of the great parks of Buenos Aires (as Bosques de Palermo or Parque Centenario, among others).
