Last Saturday opened Palermo’s Week, an event which will last until next Saturday in honor of the aniversary of the traditional Porteño neighborhood. The celebration includes live music shows and circus, street tango dancing, guided visits, historical narrations, cultural exhibitions, sport clinics and ecological and recreative activities,
all in the biggest and most diverse neighborhood of our city.
For those who want to know or remember the old Buenos Aires, in the Botanical Garden, the city archive will exhibit old pictures of Palermo, along with guided visits to the historical ground of the Argentine Rural Society (right in front of the gardens). The historian and writer Daniel Balmaceda will narrate Palermo’s histories in a bar called El Preferido (2108 Jorge Luis Borges Street, in the corner of Guatemala Street).
A new neighborhood emblem representing Palermo, which has been designed by a neighbor, will be unveiled and permanently set in Plaza Italia. Friday 29th, Palermo Viejo area will honor the local designers in the “Design Night”, organized by the Cultural Industries Ministry. By night, in Plaza Serrano you can enjoy the best local jazz groups in a special and intimate presentation.
During the week there will also be urban interventions by street artists and for the great closing on Saturday 30th in the Planetarium, it’s been prepared a large exhibition of Origami art and traditional Japanese drums by the Japanese Garden. Finally, a massive picnic with live DJ’s. Palermo is enjoying its aniversary week and –if you are coming to Buenos Aires- you’re invited to join these and other activities.
