BELGRANO HILLS RENEWED
The city regains at its best shape one of its main traditional green areas: the Belgrano Hills. A job inspired by its neighbors who favored the full restoration of the space: fonts, walking paths, monuments, benches, child’s games and the installation of lights. This great 3 hectares square will be renewed by the beginning of August. Hostel Colonial gives you some tips of what you should not miss.
The cleaning and restoration of the Statue of Liberty replica is the last remaining detail. Meanwhile, the renovation of some other sculptures as the Dama del Cántaro fountain (on Juramento Street) and another one of 11 de Septiembre Street, has been successfully achieved. The green areas have been favored by the inclusion of more than 154 new bushes and the replant of a 4.200 square meters area.
The design of the square, as it happened with many other large green areas of Buenos Aires, belongs to the French architect and landscape gardener Carlos Thays. The Belgrano Hills served as a retaining wall for the River Plate waters. The place used to house an old Franciscan chapel of the XVIII Century (in the corner of La Pampa and 11 de Septiembre, where you can find a commemorative plaque).
The Belgrano square has 67 different species of trees and has walking paths built in antique XIX Century paving stones. The people who frequent the place enjoy different outdoors activities as: picnic, sports and arts. Another sightsee of the Hills is the Arbor, where neighbors gather to dance tango. A great and renewed place to visit you can’t miss.
