FESTIVAL DE CINEMA DE TERROR DE BUENOS AIRES

Hoje começa a XII Edição do Festival BARS (Buenos Aires Roxo Sangue), um evento dedicado ao cinema independente de terror, fantástico e bizarro. Até a quarta-feira 2 de novembro, um clássico da cena alternativa portenha. Um genro menor que aqui é protagonista. Curtos e largo-metragens de autogestão, ultra-independentes, com câmaras familiares e novos diretores experimentais.

O BARS XII reúne filmes que compartilham uma mesma problemática de distribuição para um público especializado. A primeira edição foi em dezembro 2000 no auditório da Faculdade de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Buenos Aires. Agora, o festival cresceu e se está apresentando em cinco cinemas diferentes do Centro portenho, muito perto do nosso Hostel Colonial.

DAY OF THE NOTABLE CAFES

Today, Wednesday October the 26th, we celebrate the Day of Buenos Aires Notable Cafes. It’s a large Porteño tradition to share a coffee with friends. Some years ago, honoring this tradition, the Buenos Aires City Government decided to preserve some special cafes by naming them “Notable Cafes”. The Porteños loved the idea and took it one step beyond: the Day of the Notable Cafes.

The date was chosen because in October 26th, 1894 opened the traditional Café Tortoni on Avenida de Mayo. The day will be celebrated with different events in some of these notable cafes. Hostel Colonial brings you some of the best options to enjoy this day.

FESTIVAL DE CINEMA DE MAR DEL PLATA

Uma nova edição de um dos festivais de cinema mais importantes de Latino América terá lugar na cidade de Mar del Plata (400km da Cidade de Buenos Aires) entre os dias 5 e 13 de novembro. A 26° edição do Festival Internacional de Cinema contará com a participação de mais de 2000 filmes de continente tudo. Uma verdadeira festa do cinema na cidade mais famosa da costa argentina.

O festival é o único da região qualificado pela Federação Internacional de Associações de Produtores de Filmes como categoria A. Criado em 1954 para difundir o cinema argentino, o evento foi crescendo até se converter em uma referencia internacional. Uma cita obrigada para realizadores, atores, produtores, distribuidores e amantes do cinema. Um acontecimento artístico cultural imprescindível.

O objetivo do festival é de apresentar as novas tendências do cinema mundial em um encontro anual público. Este ano se apresentaram quase 2000 filmes entre curtas e largas metragens. RUNNING IN BUENOS AIRES

This time of year, the running activity takes over the streets of Buenos Aires. One of the most famous and expected ones is that organized by Nike. The former “10k” has been renamed as We Run Buenos Aires. Buenos Aires climate is ideal this time of year for outdoor activities. Besides that, running has become one of Porteño’s favorite sports in the last years, as several renowned races are choosing our city.

If you’re visiting our city on the week of November the 12th, you may consider try running in this event. The organizers recommend to take some basic precautions as taking a bottle of water with you and to pick the right sports clothing. The race starts in the morning with an average month temperature of 14°F and ends near noon with an average of 25°F. Be prepared for the occasion.

10 ANOS DO MALBA EM UMA AMOSTRA

Até 23 de Janeiro do ano que vem o Museu de Arte Moderno Latino-americano de Buenos Aires (MALBA) apresenta uma amostra auto-referencial. “Malba, Dez anos” permite ao público recorrer em diferentes imagens e relatos os 10 anos de um dos museus mais famosos da cidade. A produção e os aportes para a cultural local, regional e internacional através de diferentes suportes.

Organizada em quatro estações, a exibição apresenta os seguintes itens:

- Um vídeowall que compila a gestão das diferentes áreas do museu: exibições, literatura, cinema, educação e desenho.
- Um vídeo com os testemunhos de um grupo de críticos, curadores, escritores, realizadores e gestores que falam sobre suas lembranças e o impacto do MALBA.
- Um espaço documental com as publicações e folhetos editados desde a fundação do MALBA.
- Um média-lab onde se poderá navegar a página web do museu e consultar a nova base de dados da coleção on-line.
- Ademais, um espaço dedicado as redes sociais, desenvolvido com o aporte das comunidades criadas em Facebook e Twiter, que participaram com o envio das suas fotos tiradas no museu para ser parte dos festejos.

Além desta amostra, você pode desfrutar da exibição do venezuelano Carlos Cruz-Diez: A cor no espaço e no tempo. Uma chance única para conhecer a historia do museu moderno mais visitado de Buenos Aires.

A PROJECT FOR A NEW PUERTO MADERO

The Costanera Sur (South Riverside) project may result in a new Puerto Madero. The Porteño legislature is to approve the construction of a new neighborhood and green area, south of Puerto Madero. The old training area of Boca Juniors Soccer/Football club will host 11 buildings, offices, stores and restaurants. There are around 70 hectares and 728 thousand square meters projected.

The estimated construction time is 12 months. The place is between Puerto Madero and the City Ecological Reserve. The name of this new neighborhood could be “Santa María del Plata” (Holy Mary of the River Plate). The project also includes a shopping mall, a luxurious hotel and several stores. It’s a new place, a new space facing the river in an expanding Buenos Aires City.

There will be a horseshoe-shaped walk and sidewalks to approach the waters of the River Plate, many bars and restaurants facing the river and the chance to take new original pictures of our city from a different point of view.

NOSSO HOSTEL TAMBÉM É ZONA HISTÓRICA

O Governo da Cidade de Buenos Aires está desenvolvendo um plano para recuperar as jóias da zona histórica. Uma zona que não é só o contorno da Plaza de Mayo, como muitos acham, senão que também abarca os bairros de San Telmo e Montserrat. Quase 250 quarteirões mais a “City” portenha, onde fica nosso Hostel Colonial.

Alguns dos edifícios e construções mais antigos da cidade pode se encontrar nesta zona. A igreja San Ignácio, na Rua Alsina e Avenida Belgrano. Perto dali, um conjunto de casas de 1830 e os Altos de Elorriaga, de 1808. Também o Colégio Nacional Buenos Aires, e a sua velha livraria, que formam parte do Quarteirão das Luzes. Na Rua Defensa, a Farmácia de la Estrella e o Museu da Cidade são outros atrativos clássicos.

A Avenida de Mayo e seus edifícios como La Imobiliária ou o Palácio Barolo. As recentemente designadas ruas pedestres Suipacha e Reconquista são opções para desfrutar dos edifícios típicos de fins do século XIX e começos do século XX da zona. Desde a rua mesma, sem carros que molestem, você pode observar e tirar fotos dos mesmos.

NEW OPERA FEDRA IN COLÓN THEATER

From November 18th to 30th, the biggest Argentine Coliseum, the Colón Theater, presents the world premiere of opera Fedra. The work was entrusted by the theater to resident composer Mario Perusso and it’s based on the book of Marcelo Perusso. Guillermina Tassi collaborated on the choreographic design and Rubén Conde on the lights design, to create this representation of the classical mythological character Fedra.

The story is based on the life of Fedra, daughter of Minos and Pasífae, and woman of Teseo, who fell in love with its step son Hipólito (son of Teseo and Antíope). As Hipólito did not respond to her insinuations, she acussed him of raping her and killed herself. Teseo believed on Fedra’s version and offered his son to Poseidon’s fury. As Hipólito survived Poseidon’s set up, Aphrodite told Teseo the truth and father and son reconciled.

FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE DESENHO 2011

Entre os días 28 e 30 de Outubro, se realizará o III Festival Internacional de Desenho de Buenos Aires no Centro Metropolitano de Desenho (Rua Algarrobo 1041, bairro de Barracas). O lema do evento será “Cidade de projetos”: um ponto de encontro entre o mundo dos designers, do conhecimento e da comunidade portenha. Projetos desenvolvidos e conceitos por vir: a utilidade do desenho na vida cotidiana.

Buenos Aires é uma das capitais latino-americanas do desenho e este festival internacional procura amostrar a vanguarda da disciplina. Múltiplos caminhos onde o desenho resulta de grande utilidade aportando valor agregado, cultura e competitividade á cidade. Exibições, conferências, aulas abertas, workshops, instalações e muitas outras atividades em um festival que você deveria visitar si estiver em Buenos Aires.

O festival também será um lugar para que designers independentes, pequenas empresas e outros possam comercializar e exibir seus produtos e desenhos.

A CURIOUS HISTORY OF GARDEL AND CHE GUEVARA

Gardel is the maximum symbol of tango around the world. Its smile and image, but especially his voice, have become tango icons. As a true myth, his life is full of mysteries and adventures, some of which are true and some others just popular stories. One of the most curious is the one who links Gardel and other Argentine icon: the famous revolutionary Che Guevara.

The story begins on the night of September the 10th 1915. Gardel was 25 or 28 years old, the difference is set by the different theories on his place and date of birth (Argentina, France or Uruguay, in 1887 or 1890). He used to frequent a club in the building where the museum Palais de Glace (1725 Posadas Street, Recoleta) is located today. That night, he visited the place with a large group of friends.

In the ballroom, one of his friends (actor Elías Alippi) argued with a group of aristocratic boys who were making fun of him. Gardel stood up for his friend and calmed everyone down. But the group of boys didn’t stop teasing Gardel’s friend, so the singer suggested him and the whole group to leave the place. The started walking down Alvear Avenue when they heard the other group shouting and inviting them to fight.

Gardel group tried to avoid confrontation but it was too late. A shot reached Gardel’s thorax. The author: Roberto Guevara Lynch, the uncle of Che Guevara. There were no physical consequences for Gardel, but he had to leave the country for a couple of month as he and the whole group was prosecuted by local justice. One of the dozens of histories around the life of Gardel.

A ORQUESTRA NACIONAL DE MÚSICA DE FILMES

O mês passado, a Orquestra Nacional de Música de Filmes -dirigida por Fernando Kabusacki- cumpriu 20 anos animando files clássicos. Desde 1991 colabora com a Filmoteca Buenos Aires, musicalizando ao vivo filmes mudos. A formação é variável e a lista de membros inclui músicos convidados de diferentes genros representativos da cena local. Nestes anos, também tem contado com as presencias de músicos internacionais.

Nos últimos anos, a NFCO forma parte do acompanhamento dos filmes projetados no Museu de Arte Moderno Latino Americano (MALBA) e no programa Filmoteca da televisão pública argentina. No ano 2009, os músicos editaram o CD “Murnau's Faust Live”, sobre uma gravação do clássico filme Fausto de 1926.

Os festejos pelos 20 anos da curiosa orquestra são no MALBA (Avenida Figueroa Alcorta 3415) com o desempenho da NFCO em filmes de Tod Browning, Charles Chaplin, Benjamin Christensen, Paul Czinner, Germaine Dulac, Abel Gance, Buster Keaton, F. W. Murnau, Erich von Stroheim e Paul Wegener, entre outros. Esta quinta 13 e sábado 22 de outubro você poderá assistir ao filme “Nosferatu”, de Friedrich Murnau. Também o sábado, a NFCO se apresentará no bar “Virasoro” as 10.30PM (Rua Guatemala 4328).

THE MUSEUM OF BOOK

Buenos Aires has just opened its “Museum of the Book and the Language”. It’s located on the National Library (2502 Agüero Street) and it counts on one of the most original colorful architectures of the city. The design and construction of the museum was in charge of local architect Clorindo Testa. The new space will be connected with the rest of the buildings of the square (the National Library, the National Engraving Museum, among others) through a pedestrian road.

The project is inspired by the “Portuguese Language Museum” in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The objective is to stimulate in the visitor a reflection on the Argentines language, its metamorphosis and continuities, its influences and the effects on the popular way of speaking. The story begins with the founders of our Nation and ends with the arrival of the new language of the digital era.

The space is divided in three: “The territory of language”, “The books” and the temporary exhibition room “The world of words”. In them, you can find first editions of traditional and representative books of Argentine literature and to know the different accents spoken in the diverse regions of our country. The museum also has a fully equipped auditorium, and a conference and audiovisual projection room.

A MODA EM BUENOS AIRES

Para os amantes da moda, o Centro Metropolitano de Desenho (CMD) oferece o seminário Imagem de Moda. As terças 11 18 e 25 de outubro, você poderá assistir a conferências de expertos locais. O ciclo gratuito de capacitação “Gestão para empresas de moda” é coordenado por Jimena Nahon, Diretora da revista Catalogue Fashion Book.

A idéia desta modula é abordar o tema da credibilidade da imagem no contexto de uma produção ou venta de produto, a imagem desde a edição gráfica e da imprensa, e desde a fotografia. As aulas são ideais para designers, empreendedores do setor, pequenas e medianas empresas de moda, gerentes de produto, comerciais e de marketing, marcas de indumentária, alunos de último ano de carreiras afines e toda pessoa interessada.

As aulas se ditam no Auditório do Centro Metropolitano de Desenho (Rua Villarino 2498, Barracas).O horário é: 9.30AM a 10.30AM / Break / 11.00AM a 12.00PM.

EXHIBITION: GARDEL, THE COMPOSER

Carlos Gardel is the voice and image of tango. Nevertheless, behind the myth, the outstanding singer and the charismatic actor, there was also a great composer. Now, an exhibition in the Carlos Gardel House Museum, you can approach this side of the major symbol of Argentine tango. Until November the 30th, the exhibition is a must for music and tango lovers.

The house where Gardel and his mother lived in the traditional tango neighborhood of Abasto (735 Jean Jaures Street) is the place to find some original scores, anthological pictures and lots of memories of Gardel. Most of its work was composed alongside José Razzano (in its youth) and Alfredo Le Pera (in its last years). This patrimony is the one Gardel House Museum is dedicated to rescue, preserve and exhibit.

Gardel started his career in 1911, after a musical challenge with Razzano, who became his partner for 15 years. Around 1915 he recorded for the first time his own compositions. Soon, he became the most important voice of tango and started some of the first sound films made in Argentina (with his face and voice as a trade mark). The world interest for tango music had Gardel touring around such different cities as Paris, New York or Montevideo.

His last years before his tragic death (in a plane crash in Colombia), he recorded some of its best songs such as: "Cuesta abajo", "Mi Buenos Aires querido" and "El día que me quieras", among others. Some of these great songs are what you will find in this particular exhibition. You can visit the Carlos Gardel House Museum on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11AM to 6PM, and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 10AM to 7PM.

REABERTURA DO CENTRO CULTURAL SAN MARTÍN

A reabertura de um dos espaços mais importantes da cultura portenha está projetada para mediados de novembro. Localizado na Rua Sarmiento 1551, o Centro Cultural General San Martín (CCGSM) será mais luminoso e amplo. Terá quase 35 mil metros quadrados, seis subsolos e um novo Centro de Desenvolvimento Multimídia (de 10 mil metros quadrados). Hostel Colonial te comenta como será o Centro renovado.

O Centro Multimídia inclui salas de cinema e teatro pensadas com um foco não convencional, para alojar obras e programações experimentais. As duas novas salas contam com capacidade para mais de 100 pessoas. No coração do CCGSM também estará o arquivo digitalizado do Núcleo Audiovisual Buenos Aires, oferecendo talheres e cursos sobre temáticas cruzadas pelas linguagens digitais.

O cinema, a arte digital, a animação e o cinema documental conviverão no novo espaço. A sala multi-propósito dispõe de cenárias móveis e uma grada retrátil para se acomodar aos diferentes espetáculos. Um lugar de vanguarda, único na Argentina e especial para os amantes das novas expressões da arte.

A inauguração projetada é dos dias 11 a 14 de novembro com uma nova edição de Cultura e Mídia que reúne artistas jovens e consagrados em videoinstalações, performances, documentais, música e vídeo jogos. Também alojará o Primeiro Festival de Curtos On-Line que apelará ao sustento visual e será exibido no website do CCGSM. Um novo espaço que você pode conhecer si estiver visitando Buenos Aires nestas datas.

A SOUNDTRACK FOR ARGENTINA

Argentina has become a Latin American capital for electronic music. Some of the world greatest DJs visit regularly Buenos Aires in massive festivals as the Creamfields or the Moon Park. Now, a global initiative -headed by local DJ Zuker- will gather different urban sound to create a soundtrack for Argentina. Many DJs around the world will be doing the same with their native countries. What are they seeking? Identity through music.

In Argentina, DJ Zuker, famous for its crossover between rock and electronic music, will be in charge of mixing and producing the sounds. These editable pieces will be collected through Facebook until November 21st in Facebook.com/JB.Argentina. If you’re visiting Buenos Aires or any other city of Argentina in these days, you can also collaborate with a special soundtrack.

From horns, pipe noises, whistles, rain, urban fanfares and brooms sweeping the streets to ambulance sirens or any other urban noise you can possibly imagine, everything is accepted. “Every placeand every sound has the capacity to start a party” is the main idea behind the City Remix initiative. The first experiment was made in Hong Kong by DJ Russ Chimes. The result of its production will be presented on December 14th in a special City Remix party.

Who knows, you might even find some interesting noises on our Hostel Colonial to inspire DJ Zuker and become a part of Argentina’s soundtrack.
