LGBT TOURISM IN BUENOS AIRES

The LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, Trans) tourism in Buenos Aires grew strongly in the last years. Since 2010, when the egalitarian marriage was approved, the city has become one of the most important destinies in South America and the world. Hostel Colonial tells you the main reasons for this phenomenon and the things that make us a great place to visit. We love diversity and freedom!

Egalitarian marriage: Buenos Aires was the first city in South American to approve it. In 2010, the law became national. A couple of years later, Uruguay also allowed the possibility.

LGBT hotels: there are special LGBT hotel and lots of friendly places to stay. Of course, our Hostel Colonial is among them!

Restaurants and dance clubs: in Palermo area, there are special LGBT proposals, although the whole neighborhood has become a LGBT reference, including dance clubs.

Events: in November, we celebrate the Queer Tango Festival and the Gay Pride Parade.
We believe that an inclusive city is a better city. We are open and waiting anyone who wants to discover Buenos Aires and have a great time while doing it.

PRECAUÇÕES DE VERÃO. PARTE 2

Além das precauções habituais, há outros cuidados especiais que você deveria ter nesta época de verão na cidade. Hostel Colonial te conta o que você pode fazer para se proteger.

Cuidados da pele:

Existe a ideia equivocada de que o bronzeado é saudável, mais a exposição ao sol e as radiações ultravioletas (UV), podem produzir graves danos na pele. Algumas lesões podem inclusive ser permanentes.

Por isso, se recomenda:

- Não se exponha ao sol entre as 10 e as 17 h.

- Use protetor solar FPS 15, como mínimo, inclusive os dias nublados, e aplique o mesmo 30 minutos antes de se expor ao sol. As crianças precisam de uma proteção maior.

- Se proteja com sombreiro, roupa clara e ligeira e lentes de sol.

- Se você gosta de se bronzear, se exponha em doses pequenas e frequentes: bronzeia melhor que uma exposição longa e isolada.

- Procure estar na sombra das árvores, teto ou sombrinhas.

- Lembre-se que as nuvens deixam passar o sol e que a areia, a água e a neve aumentam a sua ação.

No caso de detectar câmbios na pele, se recomenda realizar um controle dermatológico para a pronta detecção das possíveis lesões.

PRECAUÇÕES DE VERÃO. PARTE 1

O verão em Buenos Aires é muito caloroso. Por isso, Hostel Colonial te compartilha algumas recomendações para desfrutar da cidade nesta época.

- Aumentar o consumo de líquidos sem esperar a ter sede para manter uma hidratação adequada.

- Não se expor ao sol em excesso, nem em horas centrais do dia (entre as 10 e as 17 horas).

- Evitar as bebidas alcoólicas ou muito adoçadas.

- Evitar comidas muito abundantes; ingerir verduras e frutas.

- Reduzir a atividade física.

- Usar roupa ligeira, folgada e de cores claros; sombreiro e lentes escuros.

- Permanecer em espaços ventilados ou acondicionados.

- Se lembrar de que não existe um tratamento farmacológico contra o golpe de calor e só os métodos clássicos, citados acima, podem prevê-lo.

Se você sentir a dor de cabeça, vertigem, náuseas, confusão, convulsões ou perdida de consciência, pele roxa, quente ou seca, respiração ou pulso débil ou elevada temperatura corporal, deverá:

- Se trasladar para a sombra ou lugar fresco e tranquilo.

- Manter a cabeça alta.

- Se refrescar molhando a roupa, com gelo na cabeça e bebendo água fresca com algo de sal.

- Solicitar ajuda médica.

BUENOS AIRES HEIGHTS

The Buenos Aires City Government has an original proposal for summer tour: to see the city from its tops. Buenos Aires Height is a chance to see the whole picture, a beautiful landscape of Downtown Buenos Aires and the main neighborhoods. You will see the tops, the towers, the parks, the people, the colors, the details that make this city a unique place in South America. Hostel Colonial tells you which are the chosen buildings to take a glimpse of Buenos Aires.

The Barolo Palace: the first concrete building in our city and its lighthouse on the top. Located in 1370 De Mayo Avenue, it has a twin building in Montevideo, Uruguay, and a wonderful place to see our main touristic avenue.

The National Library: located on a hill in beautiful Recoleta neighborhood, it offers a view of Del Libertador and Figueroa Alcorta Avenues, the squares and the River Plate. It is located on 2502 Agüero St.

Legislative Palace: located in Downtown Buenos Aires, in 130 Perú St, is a beautiful building where you can get an astonishing view of Plaza de Mayo and the Casa Rosada, among other key places from Buenos Aires.

German Club of Buenos Aires: a restaurant located on 327 Corrientes Ave, it’s a 21^st floor in the Comega Buildeing with a great view of Puerto Madero and Retiro neighborhoods. You can also see the River Plate.

MUSEU DO ACORDEÃO

No bairro de Chacarita se encontra o Museu Anconetani do Acordeão (Rua Guevara 492/478). A família Anconetani, de origem italiana, está honrada neste espaço único que começou com Giovanni Anconetani, representante da fábrica de acordeões Soprani que fez mais de dez viagens de venda para a Argentina. Aquelas travessias terminaram em 1912 quando Don Giovanni decidiu ficar no país e criar a sua própria fábrica (ele era músico e artesão).

Quase um século depois, seu apelido é sinónimo dos melhores acordeões e parte do nome do museu do instrumento. Os herdeiros de Giovanni criaram em 2005 o MUSA, este museu que se apresenta como um lugar quase mágico. Uma velha casa na que se exibem acordeões históricos fabricados em diferentes lugares do mundo. Além disto, há fotos da família Anconetani e uma réplica do talher de Giovanni com as ferramentas originais.

BUENOS AIRES NEIGHBORHOODS: VILLA URQUIZA

Villa Urquiza is a traditional residential neighborhood located North Center of Buenos Aires City. It is known for its beautiful streets and squares and the wonderful houses you can see in a walk through any of its streets. In the last years, the neighborhood changed as many buildings were built in the area. Also, last year, the subway B line was extended to reach the main square and heart of Villa Urquiza. Hostel Colonial tells you all about this place.

The Triunvirato Ave is the main commercial area of Villa Urquiza. Also on these avenue is most of the entertainment area and the restaurants and bars. Among the main attractions are the buildings of the Cinema and Theater 25 de Mayo (4440 Triunvirato Ave) and the Parque Chas Cinema (4100 Triunvirato Ave).

Some other great sightsees of Villa Urquiza are: Cinema Theater 9 de Julio (2523 Bauness St), Sin Rumbo tango club (6157 Tamborini St), Sunderland Tango Club (3161 Lugones St), Saint Patrick’s Church (Echeverría St and Estomba St), Jesús Misericordioso Parrish (4755 Rivera St), Our Lady From Carmen (4940 Triunvirato St), Urquiza Square (Bauness St and Nahuel Huapi St), Zapiola Square (Juramento St and Mariano Acha St), among others.

It’s easy to get to Villa Urquiza from our Hostel Colonial: take the B line of the subway (Florida Station, two blocks away from here) to Echeverría or Juan Manuel de Rosas Stations. This great neighborhood is waiting for your visit!

A MÁGICA DA ART NOUVEAU EM BUENOS AIRES

Buenos Aires é uma cidade lotada de maravilhosos edifícios. Muitas vezes elogiada pela sua arquitetura, agora chegou o reconhecimento para uma das mais bonitas amostras da Art Nouveau na cidade: El Ateneo-Grand Splendid. Alguma vez um dos cinemas mais visitados do Centro da cidade, hoje uma das livrarias mais importantes do mundo, o lugar foi distinguido pela Associação Argentina da Art Nouveau. Hostel Colonial te conta sobre este edifício histórico.

Localizado na Avenida Santa Fe 1860, o velho Teatro Grand Splendid foi uma iniciativa do empreendedor turístico Max Glücksmann, um fanático do cinema. Os arquitetos Peró e Torres Armegol lhe deram vida a este edifício de estilo eclético (pelos detalhes art decó, barroco e art nouveau). Foi inaugurado em 1919 com uma incrível cúpula pintada por Nazareno Orlandini e ciclos de espetáculos que convocavam à sociedade portenha toda.

Em 1926, o teatro se converte em uma sala de cinema e funciona até os anos 90. Abandonado durante esta década, no ano 2000, uma das maiores livrarias da cidade resgatou o edifício do olvido (e de um potencial destino como igreja evangélica) e abriu lá a maior sucursal da cadeia. Logo de tarefas de remodelação e recuperação, o público pôde voltar desfrutar este lugar sempre dedicado para a cultura.

Hoje, renovado e homenageado, El Ateneo-Grand Splendid é uma das visitas obrigadas da nossa cidade.

DIGITALIZED ARGENTINIAN ART

The National Beauty Arts Museum (MNBA) offers a large part of its collection digitalized and in high quality. The objective is to give a preview for the local and foreign visitors of what they will see in a visit to the museum. It also allows you to keep a copy of your favorite works if you have already visited it. You can access the collection (nowadays are 287 works) in the MNBA website.

Once in the digital collection area, you can search by school, style, object or time/art period. Every work has three information elements: the author (nationality, birth place and death place if it applies), the work (year, origin, genre, school, technique, style, support and measures), and a comment on the work by a specialized art critic. You can enjoy your favorite work in a HQ scan and even share it on Facebook and Twitter.

ARTE MODERNA NO MALBA

Até 10 de fevereiro de 2014, o Museu de Arte Latino-Americana de Buenos Aires (MALBA, Avenida Figueroa Alcorta 3415) oferece a amostra “Encuentros/Tensiones” (Encontros/Tensões). A proposta da exibição é um novo recorrido pela arte latino-americana contemporânea, através de uma seleção de mais de 100 obras que pertencem ao museu e um conjunto de doadores. Hostel Colonial te conta o que você poderá desfrutar.

A amostra inclui pinturas, desenhos, objetos, instalações e vídeos de 60 destacados artistas latino-americanos. Encontros/Tensões está organizada em sete núcleos, reunidos pela afinidade temática ou formal. Inicia com uma série de peças centrais do conceitualismo latino-americano de fins dos anos 60 e chega até nossos dias. No marco da exibição, o MALBA apresenta também a incorporação de seis novas obras.

Alguns dos artistas presentes são: Ana Mendieta (Cuba),Antônio Diase Ernesto Neto (Brasil), Oscar Muñoz (Colômbia), Guillermo Kuitca e Alfredo Hlito (Argentina), Pablo Suárez (Argentina) e a dupla Jennifer Allora& Guillermo Calzadilla (Porto Rico).

Os núcleos se chamam de: “Conceitualismos”, “o Pós-modernismos”, “Neo Dadá”, “Novos Minimal”, “Transformação da matéria”, “Violências” e “Geopolítica”.

BUENOS AIRES NEIGHBORHOODS: VILLA SOLDATI

Villa Soldati neighborhood is located South West of Buenos Aires City. Founded in 1908 by Swiss Joseph Soldati (also founder of Lugano neighborhood), it is known for housing the Davis Cup stadium (in Parque Roca) and the City of Rock (former entertainment park). The most famous symbol of Soldati is the Space Tower (picture) which can be seen from most of the neighborhoods in the Center South of Buenos Aires. Hostel Colonial tells you all about this great place.

Some awesome attractions are: Parque Roca and the Davis Cup Stadium (Roca Ave and Escalada Ave), the Cristo Obrero Church (3242 Lafuente Ave), Indoamericano Park,second larger park in our city, (Escalada Ave and Cruz Avenue), Our Lady of Fátima Church (2979 Mariano Acosta St), the Premetro (a modern tramway connecting with E line of the subway) and the local football team Stadium, Sacachispas Football Club (Lacarra Ave and Barros Pazos St).

About the Space Tower, the symbol of Villa Soldati, it is also known as the Interama Tower or City Tower. The tower is 200 meters tall, with three view platform at 120, 124 and 176 meter high. It was built in 1981 by architects Totter, Dietrich and Wader. It has two elevators that can carry almost 30 people to the different viewpoints.

It is easy to get to Villa Soldati from our Hostel Colonial: take the E line of the subway in Plaza de Mayo (Bolivar Station) all the way to Plaza de los Virreyes Station and combine with the Premetro to Parque de la Ciudad station.

RESTORATION OF OLD SUBWAY WAGONS

History rolls again: the old A line wagons from our first subway are back in town. As we celebrated last December 1^st the 100 years of Buenos Aires subway, many of the traditional La Burgeoise wagons have been restored and will offer a weekend tour between Plaza de Mayo and Plaza Miserere stations. Hostel Colonial tells you all about a pride of Buenos Aires that you can discover.

More than 30 wagons were fully restored: original Belgian wood was replaced; ornaments and details were taken care by a group of experts headed by local artisan Juan Carlos Pallarols. The preservation of historical patrimony of our city is a priority and the history that run in the A line is a large part of it. It is a history of our working class, of our students and the growth of our middle class.

Except for the incorporation of safety elements that did not exist at the time these wagons first started rolling, the original design is being kept. Every little piece is polish or replaced, the electric materials are also restored and the traditional wooden seats have every little piece of wood in line, ready and waiting for you.
